It is the people of Iraq who are going to decide whether these forces will help them or resist them instead. Once the small clique around Saddam Hussein who are the perpetrators of all the crimes against humanity were liquidated the people came out on street, those who were cynical about claims that the citizens will garland the troops are hopefully disappointed.

The above was written by the host of this thread during the invasion of Iraq.

His source for the welcome that we would receive was doubtless from Chalabi who is now discredited.

One group who will really benefit from the tragic events of the last 17 days will be the people of Iraq. I am confident that although innoncent civilians have suffered pain and death, but the slow death of the nation has finally come to an end.

Another fearless - but wholly wrong - prediction by our host, during the invasion, that has fallen by the wayside! Thousands more Iraqi civilians have been killed since our host wrote this – quite apart from the 800 soldiers that we have lost.
