Michael Metz, who I had the pleasure of meeting in April, is a proven veteran from what I call the school of "conventional wisdom".
This brand of analysis works well most of the time. Situations like Dell warrant new valuation models which are normally outside the sphere of conventional thought.
That Mr. Metz likes or dislikes Dell is neither good news nor bad. Dell, like any other stock, can be affected by "macro" events beyond Michael Dell's control.

A friend and I were discussing ASP's today. If Dell was to increase its ASP by 1% this quarter, how could this potentially affect the bottom line. Assume the current ASP is $2,500 with a 1% increase tacking on an additional $25. What portion of the incremental profit before tax be attributable to an increase in earnings? By our calculations, this increased ASP could tack on an additional .03 or .04 per share.
