Had had an interest in EMC for a while. Love the co. Obviously an IBMer is going to say IBM's poised to take mkt. share from EMC. However, it's well-understood that EMC is yrs. (plural!) ahead of IBM & others on a tech basis. At the Goldman Tech Conf., IBM announced its new Shark storage products. No big deal -- I believe they're mainframe only products, while EMC's solutions handle UNIX and Windows NT environments as well (see recent Citigroup win). EMC continues to win share from IBM & Hitachi. IBM hasn't stopped the bleeding b/c EMC is focused on 1 thing -- storage. Earlier this wk. EMC announced new storage network products & that total storage biz revs. (from which it will derive a significant share) is going to be $50 BILLION in 2002. Right now, EMC's ms is in the 30s & could easily continue to move higher. IBM's late to the party & doesn't have the tech, products, salesforce, culture or focus to dethrone EMC. Everyone & their mother now has a storage offering b/c of the margins EMC's getting -- DELL, IBM, SUN, you name the hardware co. Just sit tight. Added to my position @ 98 1/8.
