Actor Ron Silver died Saturday morning after a two-year battle with esophageal cancer. He was 62.

Silver, a four-decade veteran of film and television who became increasingly outspoken in recent years on his political views, was well known for memorable leading roles in Oscar-nominated movies like "Reversal of Fortune" and "Enemies: A Love Story." He won a Tony Award in 1989 for lead actor in David Mamet's "Speed the Plow."

In addition, Silver enjoyed a side career as a political commentator on both sides of the aisle at various times, culminating in his own radio show on Sirius satellite radio. He also played a political adviser in an Emmy-nominated turn on "West Wing."
