Bob,
RE:
Why do I need a zip with the new computer my company Just bought me? After all this new box has a real big hard drive?

I heard a Computer talk show on the radio one day, a caller said she was backing up their hard drive (new computer) on 1.44 floppies, the back-up was get this 100 + disks. Half way through the back-up they ran into a bad floppy while the drive was writing to it. Guess what, now you have to start right from scratch. I know these people were new to computers, but backing up your computer onto 100 disks!!!! That is a 3+ hour job.

I backed up one of my computers, approx. 700 megs on 3 ZIP disks. About 10 minutes. I didn't time it.

SCARY STORY, WITH A HAPPY ENDING
I have found 1.44 floppies fail often. I use to back-up my Quicken files onto 1.44 floppies until the UN-THINKABLE happened. My computers HD was wiped clean (accidently) so no problem, I reloaded Windows and all the other software, and went to restore the Quicken files from my back-up disk (1.44 disk). My computer said it was a bad disk. My jaw hit the floor. Lucky Norton Utilities fixed it. 1/3 of the disk surface was toast, but no data on that area. Two years of data almost LOST.

Now I back-up to 2 ZIP disks, I use 2 just to be SAFE.

I use Zips every day, never a problem. I can't imagine life without my ZIP.
