Coot - operators are a devious breed. But Voicestream's 4Q 1999 subscriber addition growth was among the fastest in USA; even when cleaned out of the Omnipoint subs. That was the chief reason why GSM oupaced the Dataquest estimates for different standard subscriber growth numbers in America.

When it comes to playing peek-a-boo with statistics, I think that BAM takes the cake. Most investors still don't realize that more than 50% of BAM subs are analog whereas less than 20% of the AT&T Wireless subs are analog.

Mucho - GSM is urban in USA right now. The coverage outside of cities is not good. On the other hand, the roaming income is soaring, thanks to foreign visitors. So to be objective you need to balance the downside of not signing up yokels in the sticks with the upside of getting roaming revenue from sophisticated international customers.
