I don't really understand what you meant by "it may lose its coherency" ("cohesion"?) but I guess you are referring to the possibility of the nation dividing into factions? I doubt it. As you have seen after 9/11, there is nothing that brings a nation closer together than an outside enemy claiming random lives from among them.


I was expressing the possibility that our government may be the one to actually push Turkey into chaos, they way Nixon's bombing and coup in Cambodia pushed them. Bush seems intent at times into forcing Turkey to take actions when they are reluctant. The next step has too often been to interfere with the election cycles or encourage the military to make rash rescues of "democracy".
