<Who cares how big the "network" gets, no problem with NW 4.x.>
How True Jack, see below:
Citicorp has bought into NDS for 60,000 nodes,Currently Citicorp has over 1800 servers and Some servers can have up to 8 replica's. I guess you could say they have taken up NDS not NT domains !!!
To all, It will be a No of years before NT could hope to manage anything like this. Remember the formula N (N-1) 1800 x 1799 = the No of trust relationships you are required to manage to set up the full trust model i.e. before you can manage the network centrally. Imagine that's 3,238,200 trust relationships, OH I forgot the BDC server to go with each PDC that will be another 1800 NT servers please, oh one of my PDC has gone down I must locate the BDC for that Domain & reconfigure & reboot as a PDC.
Before anyone Carps "NT has proper directory now" it doesn't, MS has just shown what it might look like. There is a sign in my local pub, I see it everytime I go in, it says "Free Beer Tomorrow"
Jack did you see www.novell.com/intranetware/ear ? going back to your original topic, one of the products in development (near áeta) is ATM lan emulation, not only could you build massive networks and manage with NDS you would also have the speed. With ATM Lan emulation This would provide speedy transfer right down to client not only backbone. I saw a demo of this technology given by a company called Fore systems at Networld/Interop last week in London, very impressive.
