They can't allow the Pals to set up large rockets in Gaza. Just too damaging to moral if they start hitting, and very difficult to defend against.

I expect a countrywide vote on pulling the settlements out of Gaza later this year.


Two separate issues. The rockets have nothing to do with the settlements, and there are no settlements near Rafah. The settlements provide slightly closer targets, but they've already been shelling Sderot inside Israel. What they are worried about is improved artillery reaching Tel Aviv.
