William: Below is a copy of an earlier post of mine, describing in more or less in lay-mans terms what keepering is, how it works and its benefits. Subsequent to that, there have been some fairly technical descriptions of Keepering. Hope this helps:

""Keepered Technology" is a sytem AXC developed that allows current hard drives to store more data (up to 30 to 40% more) and retrieve it reliably, at faster speeds. Though initially no information was available on it, recently it appears that it invloves an application of a film like substance on the surface of the platters themselves. What the substance does is lock in the magnetization of the platters to prevent the randon organization of the magnetic particles, and therefore the loss of data. By "locking in" the magnetization and only "unlocking" it when needed for reading or writing, the drives are capable of storing larger amounts of data (a higher disk density). AXC has been testing the technology with 3 drive manufaturers on a non-disclosure basis since early '96 and recently announced that a 4th drive manufacturer had also begun testing. IBM is also supplying platters for the testing and development. Failure rates for keepered platters is also about 1/3 of failure for non-keepered platters. Also initialy testing has indicated better performance that had been earlier anticipated. This is all information that has been gathered fron many different sources over the last several months.
CEO had earlier stated that IF keepered was licesned it would probably be towards the end of '96. So far everything is still pointing that this time frame is correct. "

By the way, there was a post late this week (10/23) in AOLs Motely Fool, from a person with a "friend" in AXC's R&D Dept stating that Keepering was a done deal! If this is correct, then we very well will have our announcement by years end.
