I don't agree with you on that issue. Actually, I believe the biggest ''threat'' the U.S. will face in the near future in the Middle East will be Iran. Yet, this time, there's no longer some strawman country ready to wage war against Iran. Further, Iran will be used by China and Russia to pressure the U.S. Of course, Iran will still be supportive of Southern Lebanon's Hizbollah... All in all, this Gulf War was a complete blunder by the Republican administration: by attempting to weaken Iraq, the U.S. just managed to reinforce Iran! Not to speak of Syria which agreed on the Gulf War provided that Lebanon felt in her bag. Next, the anti-US feeling in the Saudi peninsula has worsened: remember the Dahran bombing? 19 US soldiers blown up in their military base.
As Iran becomes stronger and stronger (helped by Russia, China, and some European countries), it'll be a much more difficult partner to deal with for the US... |
