Jim, What's bearish? Is it a down revenues year or not? It is. Game, set and match. Is anyone reporting the down year? No! Telling the truth, even when few others are, is not bearish. It is telling the truth.
Compaq's direct sales are a joke. They stole them right out of the channel sales, which is one reason why the channel is so stuffed. The sales already seem to have peaked and they will probably restart again, for the fifth or sixth time, their direct strategy.
Intel does have some technology expertise. However, like Apple before them, they think that gives them the right to gouge. And, of course, the sub 1K market took them completely by surprise and they are still not ready to address it seriously.
CPQ's turnaround is the biggest joke of all. Take a huge dose of channel stuffing, add receivables growing at several hundred percent, do a lot of blue smoke and mirrors in the service area, ala the IBM scamarama, do a tremendous amount of tax flim flam, and get one flat quarter out of four. Nope, this co. sucked and still does. Growth is in the past and in the mind of CPQ accountants/future trustys.
BTW, since I turned a pc bear, the pc market growth has declined every single year until it turned negative last year. So, you are right I am still the same old pc bear. The same old 100% right pc bear. <G>
