After a late night session last night, with a tech person who knew what she was talking about, I am keeping the system.
Here is the info she sent me about the 800EB, and what it means. Intel P3 800"EB" is a Coppermine processor.
B - indicated the processor uses a 133Mhz Front Side Bus
E - indicates a 256K L2 cache at full processor speed (ATC)
All XPSB systems use Coppermine processors running w/ a FSB speed of 133 Mhz (however, the E and B designations are not used on the XPSB systems, because the only apply to processors in the range of 500Mhz - 600Mhz (inclusive) and no XPSB system was sold with a processor <600Mhz).
If a designation was required, it would be an EB processor, though.

The XPS "B" that Dell uses, does not mean the chip is a "B", it just happens that Dell and Intel both use that same letter.
Another thing that bugs me about the new systems is the noise. My P2 450 has two fans, one for the cpu and one for the power, exact ssame place as the P3 fans, BUT but the P3 has a cowl that fits over the CPU and attaches to the CPU fan, so it directs air overtop of the CPU, this causes a lot of noise, added there is a fan on the video card, I would say the system is 2-3 times as loud as my P2 450. |
