Since FTEL's alliances with Worldcom and GTE, I have always tried
to figure out why these companies aligned themselves with FTEL.
Among other things, I would have to guess that Franklin has a
solution to providing regular phone to phone communication over the
Internet...and these 2 companies understand this.

Here is a link to a Sept 96 issue of Byte magazine that explains
some of the problems in integrating voice/data over the net. The
author of the article comes to the conclusion that the ATM protocol
seems to be the best transmission method for integrating
voice/data. Worldcom's backbone provides ATM. My guess is that
Franklin's voice server provides a solution to some of the problems
discussed in this article...that it basically does what the Internet phones are trying to do currently. Does Franklin's association with Worldcom's ATM backbone put them head and
shoulders above the competition? Maybe I am totally off base with
my analysis, but here is a link to the Byte article that provides
some interesting reading to the geeky types out there.
