RED BANK, N.J., June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- GlobeSpan Technologies
Inc., the world's leading supplier of advanced Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)
chipsets, today announced that it will host a one-stop xDSL technology and
product showcase at SuperComm `97 in New Orleans, June 3-5, at the GlobeSpan
Booth #2666. This unique gathering represents the world's largest single-
location display of xDSL products from multiple vendors, featuring the latest
offerings from more than 20 industry-leaders. xDSL technology is seen as the
best solution for high-speed Internet and remote access, enabling multi-
megabit digital connections over existing copper phone lines.
"This extensive collection of GlobeSpan-powered DSL products from a
multitude of vendors, demonstrates the industry's production-readiness for
widespread commercial deployment, here and now," said Jim Michaels, vice
president of marketing and business development at GlobeSpan Technologies.
"The big winners are the service providers, who will be able to choose from
among a great variety of feature-rich products that deliver more bang for the
buck than ever before."
The xDSL products on display at the GlobeSpan booth will range from PC
boards and other Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) to Central Office (CO)
systems. Highlighted products will include both Symmetric and Asymmetric
varieties, as well as fixed and rate adaptive xDSL-based equipment, spanning
the gamut of ADSL, RADSL, SDSL and HDSL technologies. GlobeSpan chipsets are
used in over 90% of all ADSL deployment worldwide to date, and are currently
the only ADSL chipsets shipping in commercial quantities.
Industry View
1997 is the year in which the xDSL industry matures and follows a typical
business model of both product proliferation and differentiation. With
increased competition, vendors are beginning to offer value-added product
features at various price-points, a trend that facilitates service providers'
entry into the xDSL market. The large number of commercially-ready GlobeSpan-
based xDSL products, as well as the great variety among those products amounts
to a remarkable show-of-force for GlobeSpan. This announcement comes at the
heels of a recent press release in which GlobeSpan and another silicon vendor
have partnered to develop interoperable solutions within the ANSI Ad Hoc RADSL
standards committee.
One-Stop xDSL Showcase
The one-stop xDSL product showcase at SuperComm will include GlobeSpan-
powered systems from AG Communication Systems, Ariel Corporation, Ascend
Communications, C-Com Corporation, Cayman Systems, Diamond Lane
