To All:

Check out this article regarding IBM:

sumnet.com

It is a rather long-winded article about layoffs, DRAM pricing problems, etc., but contains a thorough duscussion of IBM's Q3 performance.

One of the big highlights was their personal computer (PC) growth. This is mainly Intel CPU stuff.

One of the lowlights was their RS/6000 workstation/server sales

However, server sales in general were up. This could include their obscure AS/400 stuff, as well as Intel based servers.

And, IBM recently announced that they were going to manufacture and sell Pentium Pro workstations.

I didn't read any reference to PowerPC sales, although IBM's RS/6000 does use the PowerPC.

It would appear that IBM's good news came from Intel-based products, and their own PowerPC based stuff wasn't selling too hot.

Perhaps they will redirect their CPU purchases and overall system strategies in the near future. Intel may benefit.
