White House/Iraq/Korea/Oil -2: Says Baghdad Hides Weapons

09 Jan 13:58

WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--The Bush administration said Thursday that the fact
that the U.N. weapons inspectors have found no evidence of Iraqi programs to
build and store weapons of mass destruction actually makes a military strike on
Iraq more likely.

White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said this was because the U.S. knows for
a fact that Iraq has such weapons and the abscence of their evidence shows
Baghdad is continuing to hide them.

In addition, Fleischer announced that the State Department has given a North
Korean official at the U.N. permission to travel to New Mexico to meet with
former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Bill Richardson. The North Korean official
asked for the meeting.

Fleischer also said the administration is continuing to monitor energy prices
but sees no reason at the moment to tap the Strategic Petroleum Reserve for
additional supplies of crude oil.
