Speaking of admiring Republicans, I must say I was impressed, in a way, by something Romney said in the debate this evening. I didn't watch, but just read a news story about it. Here's the excerpt:

"Romney had a quick reply when asked how he would run against the team of Clinton and her husband, the former president.

" 'I frankly can't wait because the idea of Bill Clinton back in the White House with nothing to do is something I can't imagine,' he said."

What I admire is the extreme cleverness of raising the specter of Monica Lewinsky in such a devious way. I believe that getting people to imagine Bill Clinton wandering around in the White House feeling bored would be extremely effective in a general election campaign.

I can't say that I admire the cynicism of a politician who would say something like that, though.

Of course, Hillary has a really good counter to that. She has already said that she would make Bill an Ambassador at Large, sending him on trips around the world to help repair the damage that has been done to our country's image. That's something I can imagine happily.
