Compaq First to Enable Global Online Participation of World Alpine Ski Championships

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 1999--Compaq Computer Corporation today announced that it is providing the backbone technology for the single largest skiing event in American history, the World Alpine Ski Championships in Vail, Colorado January 30 through February 14, 1999. Compaq's Enterprise computing solutions offer race participants, fans and media from around the world 24X7 access to real-time race results, registration and event information.

Run entirely on a Windows NT platform, the Compaq solution includes ProLiant servers, DeskPro ENs, Armada laptops, communications equipment and Insight Manager management software -- providing full-redundancy and pre-failure notification to on-site support, ensuring around the clock up time and reliability.

"When putting on an event of this magnitude and reaching over 500 million television viewers, it is critical to have a state of the art online technology infrastructure," said John Garnsey, president of the Vail Valley Foundation.
