In each case, rightly or wrongly, they thought that there were strategic dangers involved. You have argued that they were wrong to think so, elsewhere, and that therefore it casts doubt on the sincerity of the rationale. I have argued that having watched the great powers fail to react promptly to Hitler's aggression, having been betrayed by the Soviets in Eastern Europe, and with the recent shock of China going communist, there is no reason to doubt that policy was based upon a determination not to take any chances in the future...
