The London Metal Exchange is preparing to launch futures contracts for various types of steel, similar to those offered for commodities such as copper, nickel and aluminum.

The move would allow steel consumers to buy contracts for future deliveries of specific types of steel at set prices, helping to bring more predictability to an industry prone to big price swings.
