McDonald's Readies Strategy To Deflect Critic's Next Barrage By JANET ADAMY and RICHARD GIBSON April 12, 2006 McDonald's Corp. is gearing up to forestall a wave of negative publicity that could follow the release of a movie version of the bestseller "Fast Food Nation" and a new book by its author, Eric Schlosser. Mr. Schlosser's new book, "Chew On This," a 270-page title aimed at 11- to 15-year-olds, is scheduled to come out next month. The book, co-written with Charles Wilson, theorizes that fast-food companies are responsible for the nation's childhood-obesity epidemic and criticizes them for being low-wage employers. Publisher Houghton Mifflin Co. says in promotional materials for the book that it will show kids "the fascinating and sometimes frightening truth about what lurks between those sesame-seed buns." ..more...
