Don't laugh, Nazi Germany was a democracy before Hitler.
Some people say it could never happen in this country, but Tommy Franks warned a few years ago that if there were a 2nd 9-11 type attack, the whole country could be locked down and some form of martial law could be declared. When Bushies were afraid of losing last year they floated the prospect of cancelling the elections. There are many on the right who want one-party rule, and that means a quasi totalitarian state.
