Ron,
I have been a fan of the "Beck" series on MHZChoice for several years. I had never read the novels by the creators until the last few days when I read an essay by Henning Mankell, the creator of Wallander. He said that the writers of Beck, Maj Sjowall & Per Wahloo, had influenced him greatly as they had other Noir writers. He re-read Roseanna and found it to be astounding. What is remarkable about the novel is that almost nothing happens throughout most of the narrative but the detailed description of the social environment that surrounds the mystery is typical of what the authors do and what other mystery/homicide writers neglect. That 'nothing happens' gradually creates great intensity and anticipation.
I thought of you because your novel also looks at similar effects that take place in the environment and how they interplay in the lives of the people in the surround. There are 10 novels in the series and I can't wait to read them
