Galileo Technology Supplies Fast Ethernet Switching Silicon to Cisco Systems
Galileo Fast Ethernet Switch Chips Featured In Four New Switching
and Autosensing Repeater Products
SAN JOSE, Calif.--May 4, 1998--Galileo Technology (NASDAQ:GALTF - news) announced today that four recently announced switch and repeater products from Cisco Systems are using Galileo's switching silicon.
Two products in Cisco's new ''Cisco Networked Office'' product line incorporate the Galileo GT-48002A Fast Ethernet Switch Controller. Both the Cisco 1548 Micro Switch 10/100 and the Cisco Micro Hub 10/100 feature the Galileo device. In addition to the ''Cisco Networked Office'' Products, the GT-48002A is used in Cisco's new Fasthub(R) 112T and Fasthub(R) 124T autosensing 10/100 repeaters.
GT-48002A Provides Switching Functions
In the Cisco 1548 Micro Switch, four GT-48002A devices are used to provide the packet switching functions between the eight autosensing 10/100 ports. The GT-48002A allows the Cisco 1548 to offer excellent performance at a very attractive cost-per-port.
The GT-48002A is used in Cisco's autosensing hub products to provide connectivity between the 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps segments. Autosensing hubs are a new class of connectivity product that cost-effectively solve the problem of upgrading users from Ethernet to Fast Ethernet. In February, Galileo Technology announced the GT-48006, a new device targeted at this emerging application area.
''Cisco Systems has long been a key strategic partner for Galileo,'' said Manuel Alba, Galileo's president. ''We are pleased that a relationship that began with our System Controller products has now been extended to our flagship Switched Ethernet products, as well.''
