Lightspan Sets New Company Record With $4.2 Million Software Contract
Fort Worth (TX) School District Brings Lightspan Achieve Now to Over 40 Campuses
SAN DIEGO, Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Lightspan, Inc. (Nasdaq: LSPN - news), a leading provider of quality curriculum-based software and Internet products and services used in schools and homes, announced today that the Fort Worth, Texas Independent School District (ISD) has signed a $4.2 million contract for Lightspan software and services, setting a new record as the company's largest sale.

The Company's previous record software sale was a $2.5 million contract with the Camden, New Jersey school district.

``This clearly demonstrates the momentum Lightspan has built up all across the country, especially in key urban districts,'' said Lightspan Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John Kernan. ``This contract is also a testimony to the trust, loyalty, and confidence that Lightspan has developed in school districts both large and small -- not only because of our products' proven ability to help boost student achievement, but because of our experienced field sales team that knows how to help schools address their increasing demands for accountability, assessment, and academic achievement.''

Lightspan Achieve Now will be implemented in 44 schools in the Fort Worth school district. Superintendent Dr. Thomas Tocco says, ``Fort Worth is the third largest school district in Texas, with a very diverse, largely low income, and highly mobile student population. We were especially impressed with the solid body of research that demonstrates how Lightspan Achieve Now helps increase academic achievement. We are also encouraged by the unique ability of Lightspan Achieve Now to extend learning opportunities beyond the classroom and into our students' homes with the PlayStation game console. We are confident that this partnership with Lightspan will help teachers, students, and families in our community.''

Lightspan Achieve Now features an award-winning curriculum program and motivating, interactive software aligned to state standards. Lightspan Achieve Now software can run either on a Windows personal computer or a PlayStation® game console attached to a standard television set, allowing learning to move from the classroom to the home -- so both educators and families can play key roles in students' progress. Research involving more than 26,000 students in over 700 schools documents achievement gains in Reading, Language Arts, and Mathematics, for students using Lightspan materials
