N.E.T. ANNOUNCES PROMINA ATM PRODUCT FAMILY

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., February 3, 1997 - N.E.T. today announced the ProminaT ATM product family, designed for mission-critical multiservice applications including voice, data and video in the emerging ATM WAN market. The N.E.T.T Promina ATM family features switching, access and multiplexing products. Also, a new N.E.T. network management system is being introduced to integrate key network elements into a cohesive network. The Promina ATM family will enable carriers, network service providers (NSPs), internet service providers (ISPs) and large enterprises to expand service offerings as a result of new levels of "availability" combined with the benefits of multiservice networking in the ATM environment.

The N.E.T. Promina ATM family, part of N.E.T.'s Vista multiservice strategy, is designed with improved levels of critical ATM-design features such as availability, scalability, advanced-traffic management, provisioning, resource utilization and network management functionality. A founding member of the ATM Forum, N.E.T. has made a significant investment in ATM technology. Coupled with multiservice applications expertise and a service and support infrastructure, N.E.T. is uniquely dedicated to satisfying the requirements of many of the world's most demanding networks.

"N.E.T.'s new Promina ATM family offers carriers, NSPs, ISPs and other organizations around the world the opportunity to create networking solutions that make the most sense for their customers," said Joe Francesconi, president and CEO, N.E.T. "We are offering the flexibility to provision the specific services that are right for a particular application. In the case of broadband ATM, our new ATM switch design is optimized for significant performance improvements in terms of availability and traffic management to take ATM to the next generation."

The N.E.T. ATM product family is being introduced with four members initially: the Promina 4000 ATM switch, the Promina 2000 ATM network multiplexer, the CellXpressT ATM module for the IDNXr multiservice bandwidth manager, and the PanaVueT network management system. Together, the Promina products and the IDNX family span a range of applications from narrowband to broadband, and provide a true extension of existing multiservice network infrastructures.

The Promina 4000 ATM switch is a carrier edge-class design that supports superior advanced traffic management for service offerings including ATM, frame relay and circuit emulation. It has a design objective to set a new industry benchmark of 99.9999 percent availability, representing an improvement ranging from 10x to 100x over current-generation ATM switches. The Promina 2000 ATM Network Multiplexer is a high capacity system offering integrated multiservice access, adaptation and aggregation for carrier ATM services and large enterprise networks. It is a compact system that combines service adaptation and multiplexing with ATM cell switching in a cost-effective package.

The CellXpress ATM Module provides access to ATM services and networks for IDNX multiservice backbone networks used by carriers, network service providers and large enterprise organizations throughout the world. This standards-based multiservice solution allows legacy and mission-critical traffic to be aggregated and adapted for transport over ATM services.

The PanaVueT network management platform is an HP OpenView application that simplifies network management by integrating multiple network elements in a single system. It provides a comprehensive set of SNMP-based network management capabilities using Web technology for user accessibility. The Panavue system also automates the handling of events, enabling network problems to be corrected quickly, reducing downtime costs and maintaining applications availability. As part of the N.E.T. Vista Architecture, the PanaVue network management system provides fault correlation, diagnostics and other functionality for the N.E.T. Promina ATM and IDNX families of products.

The N.E.T. Promina 4000 ATM switch is planned for availability in the third quarter of 1997 and prices start at $80,000. The N.E.T. Promina 2000 ATM Network Multiplexer is planned for availability in the second quarter and prices start at $60,000.

The N.E.T. CellXpress ATM module is planned for availability in the third quarter and will carry a price of $15,000 for T1/E1 trunks and $22,000 for T3/E3 trunks. The PanaVue network management platform is planned for availability in the second quarter and prices start at $25,000. The Promina ATM family of products will be available through N.E.T. and selected distributors on a worldwide basis.

N.E.T., headquartered in Redwood City, Calif., is a leading worldwide supplier of multiservice backbone networks used by enterprises and global carriers in more than 50 countries. N.E.T. multiservice WANs and ATM products integrate voice, data, and video traffic with ATM, frame relay, LAN internetworking and ISDN capabilities for today's mission-critical applications.
