Dave,

I think you got it backwards, it's HWP that needed CPQ just like it was Compaq that needed the merger with DEC to move onto the "greener pastures"... It just took longer than expected to get there. And merging with HWP will only slow it down further. Compaq HAS BEEN READY for the new mean post Internet and dotcom bubbles World.
