But remember, if you use the technique of grinding with sodium hydroxide to do an instrumental analysis of the gold values, iron and other hydroxides can interfere. In most samples I have tested, no iron passes from the hydroxide grind to the acid phase adjustment with HBr or HCl. But you cannot take that for granted. I have found abundant iron in the acid phase. And lots of silicon gell also. The gold can be lost some of the time, it may be because of the CO2. And excess CO2 might be the reason for the iron load.
