I ran into a friend I haven't seen since last summer. She said "I know you like stocks; well, you ought to look at this company called Nextel.." Seems that her firm acquired a small company last year which was using Nextel phones. As a result, her firm decided to switch to Nextel (10 phones). She says her own phone bill has dropped from around $600 a month to less than $200. She says the firm's monthly phone bills are down nearly 75%. She credits this dramatic savings to the per-second billing, the lack of roaming charges, and especially to the radio function. Loves the radio function. Apparently there is a distinctive sound when the radio "rings", and Jen says she hears that sound more and more when she's out in the crowd.
I also got a look at the i-600, which I hadn't seen before. A solid, rather heavy piece of gear, apparently because of the battery. Good for about 8 hours non-stop usage, longer if you put the phone on stand-by. The president of this company is currently using a little StarTac unit but is going to switch over to the Nextel phone. His field service workers use a rugged Nextel unit that has the radio function without the cell phone capability.
I'm always impressed when someone who isn't into stocks starts singing the praises of one of my own companies. |
