One of these days I'm going to have to understand the full mechanics
of options better.......... but for now -

I assume that you're proposing that someone stands to make money (or
lose less) by moving the price temporarily, because some sort of
options expire ? (Hopefully you will all be able to forgive the
naivety of that statement !).

Would the price during the day be important in this scenario, or would
it be the closing price that was important if the calls expire tomorrow ?
And, if so, then mightn't we see another sell off towards the end of the day ?
