I had a stainless steel yachtsmen's folding knife made in china, and it never rusted, lost its edge, nor did the spring break. However it was 1/4 the cost of the original.

I would not swear to quality of all SEA goods. They have a way to go in QC yet I will warrant, but they do have the price war won. It is all those willing hearts slaving away as part of the greater Chininc. Been buying them for a while. I think about 1/4 of the clothes, cameras, and a good many other goods since about 1968 have been made from Shanghai to Kowloon. Not a new phenom by any means.

The new kid on the block is India.

Not very organized until recently. Their natural quality is quite superior in general, and their people are honourable vis a vis their products, but their marketing boards are about 300% behind their neighbour in NA penetration. They could take a lesson from the Japanese here.
