1. It hasn't been all that long... we were treating our Native Americans violently into the last century and also converting them.

2. The portion of Muslims that actually have any real interest in acting against the West is very, very small. Keep in mind that Al-Qaida is something like 15,000 people. How many people in the U.S. would advocate nuking parts of the Middle East?
