From the little bit of reading I did, the separate voter databases the Republicans and Democrats have are real top secret within the parties and neither wants the other to know what they have. One piece I read indicated that Republicans had the data advantage in 2004 when Bush ran against Kerry, but that by 2008, Democrats had done a lot of catchup which was a big part of Obama's success being elected. It's impossible to say where it stands now, but the data war is highly competitive.
