"So my question is how much of Seagate's Rev/profit come from the software side and doesn't this give them an advantage over most of the competition, except IBM. I think it could be an over looked advantage."

SEG has over $8 billion in revenue. Seagate Software has less than $300 million of that, although growing at perhaps 25-30%, while drive revenue has in the past 2 quarters been shrinking. So yes, it is an advantage, but not much of one, all things considered. Recent word from Al Shugart was that Seagate Software may be spun off sometime in 1998. No terms given as to whether it will be sold to the public, some other company, or given to SEG shareholders.
