A rainy end to the week for the Northeast

Heavy rain with embedded scattered thunderstorms will spread across much of the Northeast Friday. The rain will likely end during the afternoon across the Appalachians and mid-Atlantic, but will continue for much of the day across New England. Showers and a few thunderstorms will also be possible across the Gulf Coast and in southern Texas. In the northern Plains and around the Great Lakes, highs will only be in the 50s and 60s as cool, autumn-like air spreads across the region. The rest of the country will be dry with temperatures in the 70s and 80s, except in the Southwest and southern Plains, where there will be highs in the 90s.
