Asia down everywhere, overnight, except for 1/2% rise in Japan. Europe all down, except for a few minor markets. The biggies - London and Germany - down the most.

Traders expecting a volatile week. Concerns about slowing growth in the UK, the conflict for interest rates in Euroland between high unemployment and the fear of inflation. Nervousness about US markets and the belief that stocks there are overvalued (especially some techs).

Waiting for the US markets. A strong rebound in the US would shore up European bourses this afterrnoon, but S&P futures looking a bit insipid at this point.
