" theory suggests keepered media could also be used to improve performance of magneto-resistive (MR) heads"

This should not be a surprise. Information I got from a friend who attended the Ampex annual meeting in June is that Bramson said the technologies were not mutually exclusive and that tests show that to be the case. Also, keep in mind that IBM is supplying test platters to Ampex for the current round of Keepering tests. If IBM, which is the largest proponent of MR heads, is invloved, it is probably because they recognize the potential of combining the two technologies at some time in the future. If this occurs, hard drives would take an inmense quatum leap.
