Thursday, August 25, Katrina cut across Florida as a Cat 1.

By 4 p.m. Friday, August 26, Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour and Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco declared states of emergency.

By 8 p.m. Friday, August 26, Katrina was a Cat 2.

New Orleans started evacuating Saturday, August 27. By 4 p.m. all highways leading into the city were shut down, and all traffic headed outward allowed to use both sides of the Interstates and other major highways.

August 28, no gas left in New Orleans, no rental cars to be had, no space on airplanes, no space on trains, but about 1 million evacuated.

August 29, Katrina makes landfall.

September 6, according to a mortician in Shelbyville Mississippi, morticians being warned to expect 40,000 bodies.
