On line debate over Bombardier bringing Johnson/Evinrude back:

boating-industry.com

The Ficht debacle was caused by an inferior design and aggravated by poor execution. Ultra-high fuel pressures (using gasoline) have no place operating in a confined space. Plus the Ficht injector is a nightmare. Demanding tolerances and lots of unique injectors depending on motor size. Bombardier can't fix that. Short term these engines will run fine, but long term they are trouble. Meaning used engines are dangerous and have poor resale value. Good luck rebuilding that reputation. "Ram" was supposed to do that... It remains to be seen if Ficht per horsepower pricing will come down to OptiMax. Up until now 'Rude owners paid more for less. Even if Bombardier solves the design problems, you're still stuck with that high fuel pressure. And that reputation (resale value) won't change quickly. And how about all the existing Ficht owners who have been left high and dry? Finally, the part I find interesting is all this engineering ability Bombardier is supposed to bring to Ficht. If that's true then why has OE done all their DFI work in the past? And Rotax has done the rest of the engine. Bombardier ISN'T bringing a big engine history to the party. This is new turf for them, don't get too optimistic. Remember, it wasn't long ago that Bombardier gave up on their engines in the jetboats and went to Mercury's Sportjet....
