db, I know of no disappointments (yesterday's phase I/II results
is the closest that they have come). Biotechs however are rather
volitile (although LGND is much less so than others). Although LGND's
high is 19 3/4, it was only for a brief time. When they spiked to
19 3/4, I thought it was a bit over done. I probably was not alone,
which is why it came down so quickly. However, it is about 9 months
later and LGND is much further along in all areas (including leptin),
so at this time I would not consider a new all time high as being overly
pricey. That is why I made the prediction. LGND has accomplished
a great deal in the past year and they will have much more clinical
data in 1997 than in 1996. I think that is why they have so many
strong buy recs and will probably get a few more. LGND is known by
more, has greater liquidity, and should really be attracting the big boys
(who can move the price much more dramatically than retail). I think
that a double in 1997 is very realistic and expect significant movement this
month. A day like to today is good for clearing out the weak hands.
Unlike the huge overhang of late November, it really doesn't take all
that much to pave the way for another leg up. I think that in a few
days, LGND lovers will be as happy as they were yesterday.
