"Among the things offensive to followers of Ayn Rand is the concept of one volunteering their time in the service of others." That is utter nonsense. Objectivism is all about honoring your values. When Hank Readon had a major furnace blast did everybody just stand around??? What objectivists oppose is "mandatory" volunteering which is just plain stupid--like believing in Genesis and Science at the same time: *STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!* Volunteerism should be done selfishly in pursuit of your own values--the things you love and cherish and support. People who pursue "unchosen" obligations are like poker players who fold their winning hands so that the losers at the table can get even.
