Value of 64Mb Chips Falls to All-Time Low Level
June 8, 2001 (SEOUL) -- The value of 64-megabit DRAMs fell lower than that of 16-megabit and 4-megabit chips to record an all-time low.

The microchip industry said that the trading value of the PC-100 type 8x8 64-megabit DRAMs swung down to US$1.15-US$1.30 per unit, while the value of 128-megabit SDRAMs (PC-100 type) dipped to a low US$2.40-2.50 per chip.

Such a steep fall in chip value can be attributed to the bursting of the bubble in the world IT industry, a supply glut and falling consumption, industry watchers said.

However, as the bubble seems to have cleared out and prices seem to have hit bottom, industry watchers are forecasting that chip prices will swing upward.
