China's DVD industry slow to take off
DVD players are not meeting sales expectations due to lack of DVDs for sale in mainland China.
Mainland China's DVD market has not met the expectations of DVD player producers, as predicted earlier this year. Most of the DVDs available in China are still primarily copied from videocassette or laser disc.

China has at least 10 DVD manufacturers and 11 production lines, but only two have started operations. Production delays are mostly due to insufficient programme sources, a lack of cooperation among hardware and software manufacturers and the publishing industry, and high production costs.
