I may be an amateur, but buying a company at something like 1.5 x book value seems a whole lot safer than one at 30 x book (not that this is the only measure). Play the cycle buy when every one else thinks your crazy . Buy when there's blood in the streets (in my opinion wait until some of it has dried on the pavement). And sell when your shoe shine boy recites AMAT's P/E ratio to you and tells you how they will double earnings for the next ten years.
