That's the basic problem. Effective in November '08, the presidency is a popularity contest, not a race to determine who can best run our country. Obama was obviously the poorer of the two choices we were presented with. It isn't even close. So now we're stuck with OTJ training for the next four years. I hope Americans will learn from this experience, if it isn't too late.
