Who knows what crimes he prevented down the line? I was thinking about what I would have done as a 17-year old being approached by the neighborhood watch in my dad's gated community that I rarely visit. "Hello sir, my name is Joe Smith and my father lives at 1200 Main Street. His number is 555-1234 if you need to contact him. I'm just stepping out to buy him a carton of milk. Have a nice evening."

Under no circumstance do I see myself beating on some older guy. If I find out he has a gun and keeps harassing me, I run as fast as I can...
