In the local paper (Issaquah/Redmond) last night, they said Microsoft signed a with a property developer for 660,000 sq. ft of office space to house 12,000 employees, as part of their 5-6 year plan. The location is roughly 10mi from the main campus. This is not to move the company but to provide room for more employees. Building is to start in 2001.
Microsoft has 18,000? employees today. They are planning for 12,000 more in 2001 and who knows how many between now and then.

Looks to me like they plan to double the company over the next 5 years.
