The system is more ridiculous than that. If I sold you an orange as a remedy for scurvy I could be arrested and sent to jail because federal guidelines mandate an orange is not a medicine and only a drug can make such a claim.

"The disclaimer must also state that the dietary supplement product is not intended to "diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease," because only a drug can legally make such a claim."
