Covid Deaths Surge Across a Weary America as a Once-Hopeful Summer Ends The virus is inexorably approaching me here in Cuyahoga County, coming on three fronts from the West Virginia, Kentucky, and Indiana borders. Fortunately Cleveland is a major health care center anchored by the Cleveland Clinic and two other major hospital groups, so there are a lot of well educated health care workers and relatively high rates of vaccination in the immediate area. In the rural areas of Ohio it's more like Alabama. I'm hoping the infection rate here doesn't get too high before I can get a booster shot for my Pfizer vaccine. I expect this winter to be like the last, but it's not an unpleasant routine for me, and the restoration of my house will proceed regardless. I may not work as fast as when I was younger, but I still enjoy it. I feel for those who aren't as privileged as I am. They have a lot of suffering ahead of them, and the health care workers lives are going to be difficult too. nytimes.com
